History of the Portsmouth v Watford fixture

View from the away end at Fratton Park.
Watford travel to take on Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday afternoon, needing to turn around their fortunes at the ground. The Golden Boys will be hoping to improve upon a record which has seen them lose 13 and win only 5 of the 22 games played, although three of these victories have come in the last four visits to the famous South Coast ground.

However, the last time the two teams met at Portsmouth was just over four years ago, in August 2002, with Portsmouth running out comfortable three goal winners in a League Division One fixture.

Recent respective form guides

Portsmouth has lost just once in their last six home games, winning four and drawing the other one. The Pompey have scored ten goals during this spell and conceded only three, thanks in the main to a strong back four containing former England Internationals, David James and Sol Campbell.

Hameur Bouazza: Grabbed leveller at Wigan Athletic.
In complete contrast to Portsmouth, Watford are having a difficult time on their travels, and have managed just two draws from their opening six Premiership matches. The Golden Boys have conceded 11 goals in these games and only hit two in reply, and none since Hameur Bouazza netted against Wigan Athletic in late September.

Portsmouth are a respectable 6th position in the table, courtesy of the 20 points they have accumulated from their opening dozen games. Watford on the other hand returned to the relegation zone after last week's expected thumping at Chelsea and currently only have 9 points from their 12 games.

FootyMad's prediction…

Although Portsmouth started the season on fire they have struggled to find the net consistently of late and here at the Golden Boys we feel a shock may be in store.

Providing Watford can keep it tight early on and frustrate a vociferous home crowd there is every reason to suggest a point or even more. Away Win
