The Hornets had led the Bluebirds 2-0 but after having Tamas Priskin sent-off 29 minutes into the match and had to settle for a point.
"There's one or two things that we've got to iron out," Boothroyd told the club's official website after the 2-2 draw.
"If we can go 260 minutes last season with 10 men and not concede a goal then we should be able to go all the way through this particular game and dog it out, be resilient and get the win.
"I know the first goal was a deflection but we gave ourselves problems tonight and we didn't give them enough problems.
"I'm just disappointed we didn't hold on for the three points it would have been terrific for the home fans to see that.
"All's not lost I guess with 10 men, but we didn't really do enough to get the win so I have to accept that and prepare for Wolves."
