The Watford striker has been troubled with a back injury for the past few weeks and has returned to Vicarage Road where he is undergoing light training.
"Will is back at Watford, he will remain there for the next three or four days or so.," Forest boss Colin Calderwood told the Nottingham Evening Post.
He is close to being back on the grass, in terms of training. But we have got him to that stage before ourselves and he has had a set-back.
"Something needs to happen quickly, because he has not trained properly for 30 days now. Even if he does get back into training without any problems, it will take a while before he is fully match fit.
"So, unless he does get back soon, time will quickly start to run out for him, in terms of being ready before the end of the season.
"The situation does not look too bright."
