"Financially the Cup is massive for us. The club have said that any unbudgeted money will go back to the people who made the sacrifice and the money we're making is unbudgeted money.

"It's important they are repaid because of they hadn't have done it we probably wouldn't be here today.

"The players wouldn't have been paid and it certainly would have been a difficult time. But everyone has pulled together and the spirit was fantastic.

Watford took thier place in the semi-finals after a 2-0 victory over Burnley at Vicarage Road, with two goals in the last 17 minutes from Tommy Smith and Stephen Glass, to the delight of the Hornets boss.

"It was absolutely brilliant, the fans were singing and we just couldn't let them down," Lewington told the club's official website.

"We knew this was our chance and we took it, so well done to everybody.

"We did start poorly and I was grateful to go in at half-time with the scores level. But I thought in the second half we played really well.

""The good thing was when we scored we didn't sit back and defend and we always looked the likeliest winners."
