Norwich relegated from the Premier League

Norwich City have been relegated from the Premier League after Dean Smith's side were defeated at his former club Aston Villa.

The Canaries' 2-0 loss, courtesy of goals from Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, was their 23rd defeat of the season and condemns them to life the second tier after Burnley fought back from a goal down to beat Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road.

Norwich were comfortably second best at Villa - Smith's boyhood club - with the performance indicative of their inability to create clear-cut chances and apply sustained pressure.

It's the fourth time in eight seasons that Norwich have gone down, with their current points haul currently on a par with the amount they registered during the 2019/20 season.

Toby Cudworth joins the show again this week to discuss how Erik ten Hag's appointment may affect Man Utd's pursuit of Paul Mitchell. There is also chat on the futures of Jesse Lingard & David de Gea and a look at what Newcastle are planning this summer.

Smith succeeded Daniel Farke in the Norwich hot seat in November of last year, after the German had been dismissed from his post in the aftermath of the 2-1 win at Brentford - the club's first win of the Premier League season.

Victory followed in Smith's first game, a 2-1 win over Southampton, but Norwich have been unable to build any momentum since then - and now find themselves seeking yet another promotion to the Premier League.
