Watford V Wigan at Vicarage Road Stadium - Match Preview

Abdi missing again for Hornets

Midfielder Almen Abdi will miss a fifth successive match for Watford as they play host to Wigan.

Abdi is struggling to overcome a foot injury which has kept him on the sidelines throughout the whole of September and Gianfranco Zola will again be without his services against the Latics.

Otherwise, long-term absentees Nyron Nosworthy (Achilles) and Tommie Hoban (ankle) are the only absentees for the Italian, who has stressed he is happy with life at Vicarage Road despite being linked to the vacant Sunderland job.

The Hornets have lost just one of their opening eight Championship fixtures.

Marc-Antoine Fortune is expected to return from injury to give Wigan a recognised striker.

Without Fortune (hamstring) and Grant Holt (knee), Latics have been forced to play winger Callum McManaman or on-loan forward Nick Powell as a central figurehead.

However, boss Owen Coyle is hopeful former West Brom forward Fortune will be available as one of several changes from the team beaten 5-0 by Manchester City in the Capital One Cup in midweek, with goalkeeper Scott Carson, defender James Perch and midfielder Ben Watson among those likely to be recalled.

McManaman suffered cramp against Ipswich last Sunday but could feature, although Scotland international Shaun Maloney will see a specialist to determine the extent of his troublesome back problem.
