Seeing David Beckham close to tears when a journalist asked if he was still the insperational player he was. David replied "I am England captain," he said. "I will not be resigning my position. I am proud to be England captain. I love to be playing football, it means more to me than anything and I am England captain.

"I won't be resigning unless someone wants me to, and that will be the manager. I believe this team can go far.

"I am a strong person. Every time anyone criticises me I will come back fighting. That is the sort of person I am."

Becks is a very proud and passionate Englishman and wanted to win this cup as much as any of us, even more in my eyes. Lets forget the form, the penalty misses, he is England through and through and he is the man for the job for many a year to come. Just read what Becks had to say and if you saw the interview listen in his voice it hurts him. He is still a great footballer and inspiration on the pitch, so lets not knock him lets get behind him and all the team because before we know it the world cup qualifiers will be on us and euro 2004 will be history.
