Steve Tanner Refs Wigan Athletic Game

Last updated : 29 December 2006 By Gary Holmes

It will be the first time that the Somerset based official has refereed a Watford fixture since taking charge of the Golden Boys' memorable Play-Off Semi-Final Second Leg clash against Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

Prior to that particular game Mr. Tanner last presided over Aidy Boothroyd's men during their goalless draw against Champions Reading at the Madejski Stadium in March.

Mr. Tanner was back at the Berkshire ground last Saturday for his first ever Premiership engagement, and did not produce a card of any colour as the Royals succumbed to a two goal defeat at the hands of Everton.

The 36-year-old started refereeing back in 1987, joining the Football League as an assistant in 1998 and the National List five years later.

Mr. Tanner will be joined by assistants, Mr. G.Beale and Mr. M.Cairns at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.
