Golden Boys Held - Watford 1 Reading 1
Malky Mackay’s side failed to end their run of six games without a win as they drew with Reading at Vicarage Road.
The game did not start well for Watford, the Horns struggled to cope with Reading’s attacking style and found themselves 1-0 down at half-time after Noel Hunt scored. Troy Deeney’s enjoying a run of starts and as his confidence grew he found the back of the net late in the first half with a header.
Following the defeat against Burnley Mackay made one forced change where the suspended John Eustace was replaced by Marvin Sordell with the Scotsman opting for his side to play 4-3-3.
The Golden boys had a good opportunity in the second minute when Denney headed down a free-kick and after confusion in the box the ball fell to Danny Graham but the leading scorer failed to beat Adam Federici. The best opportunity fell to Deeney in the 13th minute when he received a pass from Martin Taylor only to drag the shot wide.
The deadlock was broken when Irishman Ian Harte played in Shane Long, who looked like he had handled but the referee played on - Long passed to his countryman Hunt who easily scored from six-yards to give the Berkshire side a 1-0 lead.
Andrew Taylor got the game’s first yellow card when he tripped ex-Hornet McAnuff, Taylor almost  scored later in the game when curled a shot from outside the area only for Federici to tip the ball over.
The equalizer came in the 40th minute when Mutch took a corner from the left, Deeney got above the Reading defence to power a header home.
Watford had some very good efforts in the second half through Sordell and Denney but failed to find a winner, the defeat now leaves the Golden Boys six points of the bottom three and four points off the play-off places. Should Malky’s side pick up a couple of wins they will quickly move up the table.
