Hull City 0-0 Watford
Watford travelled to Hull looking for three points; whilst the Golden Boys only left the KC Stadium with one point their unbeaten record is still intact.
After losing their two goal lead against Coventry last Saturday it was key that Malky Mackay's boys made sure the Hornets maintained concentration for the full match. It's fair to say the game itself wasn't the best, both teams had new players in their squads who need time to settle - Hull's two new signings Robert Koren and Jay Simpson both featured, Koren had a couple of good chances but failed to beat Scott Loach. Simpson ran around a lot but struggled against the impressive Mariappa and Taylor.
Watford began with the same started eleven for the third consecutive league game which meant new signings Josh Walker, Jordon Mutch and Troy Deeney all started on the bench. Watford could've had a penalty just before half-time when Liam Cooper was holding Taylor's shirt from a Mariappa throw-in but the referee and assistant referee failed to see the offence much to the disgust of the Watford bench.
After a relatively quiet first half the Golden Boys stepped it up and had some good chances, Will Buckley had a 20 yard shot saved, Eustace looked to have added to tally of two goals as he connected with a header from a Cowie corner only for it to be headed off the line. Malky brought on Deeney and Mutch in the 59th minute, Denney had a good opportunity from eight yards but failed to hit the back of the net. Deeney was involved in Watford's best opportunity when he flicked the ball on for Danny Graham who shot on target from 12 yards only for Duke to save.
Watford's back line did very well against the attacking talent of Simpson, Koren and Spurs loanee Bostock. After the game Malky was pleased with his side's defence and said, "I think our defenders were strong and resilient today and it allowed Scott Loach to have a pretty quite game. I think Aidy Mariappa in particular was magnificent, especially after he cut his eye in the first half."
Next up is Notts County in the cup followed by a tasty league match at home to Leeds.
