Whilst the fans gave Rodgers an unfriendly reception as he’d expected it was his side that took the three points.
The Swans took an early lead through ex-Chelsea youngster Scott Sinclair in the 11th minute, the speedy forward has settled well having reconnected with his ex-mentor Rodgers. Whilst Watford had a couple of decent chances it was the Welsh side who were able to find the net, Dobbie doubled the lead on the half hour mark.
Malky tried to pick the players up at half-time; he brought on Deeney for Buckley in the 66th minute only for Swansea’s substitute Nouble to score in the 69th minute with his first touch of the game. Dyer broke down the right and crossed in for Nouble to put the ball into the net with a simple tap-in.
Even though Watford looked dead and buried they continued to push and were rewarded in the 76th minute when Deeney connected with Sordell’s cross to head home. After substituting Sinclair and Dobbie Rodger’s saw his side struggle as they lacked imagination whereas the Hornets continued to attack. In the 85th minute ex-Birmingham centre-back Martin Taylor rose above the Swansea defense to convert a Lloyd Doyley cross. Watford did get the ball in the net again in the last minute only for John Eustace’s effort to be ruled offside.
Watford will want to get back to winning ways when they travel to Sheffield United on Saturday, following that Malky’s boys face a rejuvenated Pompey side after the International break.
