Player Ratings v Portsmouth

Last updated : 20 November 2006 By Gary Holmes

Ben Foster

Made a fantastic save from Pedro Mendes, and was unlucky with Kanu's equaliser after brilliant parry.

Lloyd Doyley

Fought hard and defended well, but again distribution let him down.

Jordan Stewart

Battled manfully against the flying Lomana Lua Lua. Unlucky to be booked for challenge on David Thompson at the start of the second half.

Malkay Mackay

Back in the side at the expense of Dan Shittu, worked tirelessly. Key is whether his head can compensate for lack of real pace at top level.

Jay DeMerit

Did not put a foot wrong all afternoon, scored with a terrific header and unfortunate to be punished for the late penalty incident.

Matthew Spring

First Premiership start of the campaign and did not disappoint with a composed performance.

Gavin Mahon

Captain colossus again tackled feverously and always looked in command.

Hameur Bouazza

Caused problems early on for Linvoy Primus until being clattered by David Thompson, replaced by Priskin.

Darius Henderson

Battled manfully for the cause, unlucky not to win a second half penalty.

Ashley Young

Quality on the ball and precision cross from a corner led to DeMerit's flying header that gave Watford the lead.

Tommy Smith

Ran his socks off and tackled back well. One excellent run in the second half almost created an opening but faded late on.

Tamas Priskin

Replaced the injured Bouazza and came more into the game in the second half. Needs to be a bit stronger in the challenge.

Richard Lee

An accomplished performance by the substitute goalie, no chance with the penalty.

James Chambers

Looked good in a brief cameo appearance following his return from a month on loan at Coca-Cola Championship leaders, Cardiff City.
